I’m disappointed because on the surface, this book seemed to be exactly what I wanted: a very basic explanation and analysis of the Bible in chronological order.I found it painful to read and could not get very far into it due to the over use of dumb ‘dad jokes’ and bizzare puns and analogies. The authors were obviously attempting to be clever, but the amount of unnecessary commentary ruined the entire book.
I originally ordered to read through to make sure appropriate for husband who is just starting to read The Bible...I learned so many new things in easy way. Highly recommend!
Recommended for anyone who has tried and been unable to read the bible! (And make sense of what they are reading..!)
My son who attends a Catholic College was actually failing his Bible class! I sent him this book sort of as a joke but hoping it would be of help...... He called me one day and said, "Mom, that book you sent helped out so much"! Yay! Another Mom Victory! He passed Bible class with a C!
This book truly did "dumb down" the bible, so to speak, into a way I could understand. I've tried reading the bible a thousand times and just couldn't get through it because it made absolute no sense what they were referring to. This book explains not only what's in the bible, but why and how it got in there.
This book was purchased for my sister-in-law, who loves to read the Bible but finds it difficult to understand. My husband and I each have a copy and have found it to be of great assistance in helping us to understand who wrote various parts of the Bible and what the jist is. The Bible for Dummies is a must for those wishing to reach a better understanding of the most valuable book every published--the Bible.
I love this book! I have used it with my kids, and friends, and even strangers. I don't care what people say about the "Dummies" books, because if it helps people get closer to God, then it's doing it's purpose.
If you thought you knew the Bible you are wrong! This book brings the Bible to life. I am a religious studies minor and a Christian. Every one of faith should read this. It is accurate and has a bunch of humor in it while proving its point. It shows how much the old testament and New testament are connected and it blew me away! I implore you to read this!
