I was midway through comfort-bingeing my favorite author when my copy of Girl Last Seen arrived. I stopped to skim the first chapter to decide whether to put it at the top of my to-read pile or the bottom. In the first five pages it hijacked me so thoroughly that I didn't go back to my favorite author's book until three in the morning, three days later. Nina Laurin's voice as a young woman who survived a horrific ordeal is pitch-perfect, but it's not painful to live in her skin as she tries to stop what happened to her from happening to another little girl. I was kept guessing until the very satisfying ending, and hope to see a lot more from this author SOON.

**spoilers** The description sounds so good but definitely fails the actual book. My biggest complaint is that the main character is so unlikable. I think people can understand and feel heartbroken and sympathize for a character that suffered a horrible experience but first of all, we only get bits and pieces of that experience. We don’t actually fully understand what happened because she drowns everything out in pills. Just when we think we may learn a bit more of what drives our character to be the way she is, she pops an anxiety pill and passes out. Then she wakes up, makes more bad choices that don’t move the story forward, takes more pills, and passes out again. On that note, I’ve taken medication before for anxiety and clearly this author hasn’t. You don’t take one and sink into oblivion like the book makes it sound. If she took a bunch, yes I get that but not one as it described (until the OD). No one likes to read an entire novel about a druggie. I sympathized and understood and rooted for her and then she kept getting worse and digging herself deeper until I just didn’t care and wished the book would end. Nothing happens (minus the main character drugging out) until the last 30 pages. So read the first 2 chapters and the last thirty pages. All you need. Super bad read and wished I could get my life bad 🙄

The reviews were good on this book and couldn't find anything by my normal favorite authors so gave this one a try. OMG!! Finished it in two days and it was amazing. I was worried I was going to feel scared but it was just a good one that kept your mind thinking! Can't wait to give it to my best friend to read next.

Read this for book club. Saw it didn't have many reads yet, and was author's first novel, but reviews were really good, so started reading with a tinge of skepticism and a good dose of hope that I'd like it. Immediately drawn in. A little bit of a lag towards end of first third (or just because I got busy and was hard to have enough time to get back to it, but rest of book I wanted to keep reading... especially last third. First-time author wrote a nice, dark psycho-thriller that has enough going on, you're not sure where it's going. I seldom give 1 or 5's to anything, esp books and movies, unless in totally blown away or disgusted by my waste of time I put into viewing or reading it. . so if you think a 4 means it's not worth your time... it's really a 4.5. ;)

I like the physiological thriller and this one came through for me. I did have a long list of errands the day I started reading but instead I curled up on the couch and took the journey. Boy am I glad I did. Well written, wonderful pace and the twist at the end, I never saw coming. I was actually sad when I finished the book, now I have to find another.

A little bit like reading a long episode of Law & Order: SVU. Author put the clues together well, without being completely obvious about them. I also appreciated how the main character was developed as "broken", but not in a way that felt pathetic, just realistic. Overall a fast and enjoyable read.

Good story, I listen in Audible and wonderful narrator. The story fills in very slowly and I find myself confused as to times and dates of her story. Good read, I would recommend it on a somber winter day.

For me, it was a predictable, disjointed, sordid story about character who constantly did idiotic stuff to make her life suck, wallowed in self pity, took a lot of drugs which seemed to affect her in unrealistic ways, and passed out a lot. I found her to be ridiculous and gross. I'm a compassionate person and I felt myself thinking it would be best if she just died. The kicker was the inordinate number of times the author referred to the character's dying phone. Very puzzling. I began to laugh out loud when the phone was brought up. I figured out the shocking twist immediately, so that made the rest of the book a real slog. The main character is non-evolving, bitter, gross, immature, and annoying.
