The book is a black and white copy of the color version of the book that was published earlier. The information and pictures provided would be great and very informative. The problem is that the tables of information and paragraphs that included writing in color (such as websites or company names) are in very light gray because they were in color in the original version. Also the stamps are in black and white. With China stamps it is important to see them in color. Save your money and try to locate a color version of the book. The black and white version is very frustrating to read.

Good points the Author presents the benefits of Collecting China Stamps which have the potential to make a decent profit. According to the author nearly 1/3 of modern stamp collectors are from China. I am guessing China encompasses P.R. China, Tapei (Taiwan) and the former colonies of Hong Kong , Macau, etc. The photos are great especially on P.R. China stamp from 1949 to 1980 , and distinguishing less valuable reprints and from originals. The photos are not as extensive as stamp catalog. The Author gives helpful advice about where to buy stamps and stamp collecting investment advice. While the author emphasizes the appeal and historical of stamps , the author doesn't mention the fun or thrills of collecting.. Also the author hints but does not emphasize the possibility of loss of value. For example in the early 1980's there where investors who purchased Classic (pre- 1940) U.S. stamps as an investment for high prices. Unfortunately after the recessesions of the last 30 years, prices are below their pre 1987 value. So invest in China stamps if you want to face the risk of being stuck with "historical bits of paper" that have little demand.

This book is very thorough and concise at the same time. It details what you need to know. Precise and easy to understand.
