Really? Author spends a lot of time patting himself on the back.Page after page of front matter just to make the page count larger.Too many links to authors websites. Yes, plural, and not all have anything to do with writing.Grammar and usage are on a sixth grade level. Not a good sign for a writer who claims to be a college graduate.There are two partially useful parts in the book. In the front matter is a section titled "Paragraphs" which gives a a synopsis of the numbered paragraphs. This section is all one really needs to read to discover what the author has to say about "creating places". The rest is fluff for word count and not helpful.The second partially helpful section is the templates. Writer says they are free to use and that a reader can save typing time by downloading them from his website, but you have to sign up for his newsletter!!I feel cheated.

Arrived in mail on what has just become yesterday. Have read introduction and skimmed through book here and there. Have had some interaction with author on Google Plus and therefore had a good idea what contents were like. It is as advertised and is good. The one and only complaint is physical - for me the paperback is too narrow in proportion to its thickness. I would have a far easier time handling it if it were an inch wider at 6 instead of 5 inches wide. Now admittedly that is wrapped up in my multiple health problems and probably unique to me but it is interfering with my use of the book. (and no, electronic formats won't make it easier for me, been there tried them, so don't you future commenters waste both our time suggesting them) Is solely on account of the awkward physical size issue that I didn't give all five stars.

Great books--I got both this one and Creating Life. I simply stumbled upon both books online when looking for something about plotting, and I bought them both, and am glad I did. I'm a fairly experienced writer in literary genres, but fantasy/sci-fi are different. This book was immediately useful as I was creating a land ringed with tall mountains, and I wondered about rainfall--this book answered my question about how mountains effect rainfall! It's not like you couldn't look some of this stuff up in other ways, but having it all in one place was very useful to me. I'd highly recommend both books in this series.

Even better than the first volume

It's a good reference if you plan on creating a world. I found the section on climate and weather especially useful.

Just like "Creating Life" This book expands options to an infinite level of potential while guiding you with precise and easy steps and hints. Not to mention usable templates at no charge to the reader.

For anybody serious about world building this is the series for you. It is very in-depth and offers a lot of options and things to consider for the world you are building. I guarantee picking this up will help any writer level writer help build their world.
