Now I know why this is such a popular and well-loved series! Slave to Sensation was great! I was a bit confused in the beginning, because the author has created a very interesting and detailed future. In addition to humans, there are the changelings (shapeshifters of various animals) and the Psy (para-humans, I guess). It was the Psy that took me awhile to understand. They're mostly human, but have strong psychic abilities and they're all linked. Sascha is a Psy whose powers don't seem to have developed so her people are trying to find a use for her. She's now a laison on a housing project for the changelings, but there's more to her assignment than just development plans.Slave to Sensation has a really strong plot which surprised me! It's not all about the romance, which was great too, but the plot really kept me engaged. Sascha and Lucas are working close together on the housing project he's designed, but both have ulterior motives for their species. Sascha is suppose to be collecting information on the changelings for the Psy to use for whatever purpose. Meanwhile, Lucas is trying to gain information from her, since a Psy has been kidnapping, torturing, and murdering changeling women. Needless to say, there's not a lot of trust there at first, but Sascha doesn't fit in with the Psy and realizes she's being lied to, so she helps uncover who this serial killer is since she has access to the Psy's mind net.I loved the romance in Slave to Sensation! The Psy don't feel emotions at all. They don't find pleasure in anything, only think logically, even food is just for nutrition. But Sascha is different, she does feel, and she's afraid that she'll get sent away to get "rehabilitated." A fate worse than death for Psy. Of course, she starts feeling arousal around Lucas and dreams about them touching and kissing, things Psy just don't do. Being part panther, Lucas can sense her arousal, but there's more to it than that, since obviously they wind up together. But things get super heated between them when he finally makes her fantasies reality! In the end, I really, really enjoyed Slave to Sensation. I loved that it used a different kind of species that I've never come across in Paranormal Romance before. The Psy are a really interesting race, and their society is hiding a ton of secrets that I can't wait to find out more about!
I really liked Sascha and Lucas. Lucas is the ultimate Alpha. He's not an a** but he means business especially protective of his pack of Jaguar changelings. Someone has been taking changelings and torturing and killing them not just jaguars but wolves as well. Its not sitting right and he's made alliances with the wolves to investigate and find the killer and get their revenge. Sascha is a Psy, emotionless, cold, and unfeeling. Her powers are blocked and untapped though she doesnt really know until later what she is and what her powers are. For a while she knows she's different or broken as she says. She feels things and its getting worse. When she meets Lucas for a project between Psy's and Changelings its majorly enhanced and they are both very drawn to one another. Can they put aside the prejudices to work together and can Lucas trust her to help him find the killer?Book's been in my list for awhile and a few of my friends have recommended I read it. Lots of great reviews. As a whole I liked the book. I mean there are some flaws in it. Some of the plot was a bit here and there. At the end I didnt really feel full-filled. Hard time accepting the end. It ended on a good note or HEA or HPN however you want to slice it. This had a little bit of UF feel but it wasnt an UF. This is a romantic suspense with a little PNR. I gotta be honest it was hard to get into and hard to get through to the end. I didnt particularly have problems with the characters or most of the story but it felt like it was missing something. There was talk of humans but we never saw any. Jaguars and wolves and psys were the main focus. Psys being people with psychic abilities but not human or they were "conditioned" to be non human and their minds worked differently. Bottom line. Did I like enough to continue the series? No. I dont like enough to invest into the series.
Interests: Paranormal Romance, Futuristic, Shifters, PsychicsQuick SummaryThe world consists of three races: humans, Changelings who can turn into animals, and Psy who are gifted with mental abilities. 100 years after the implementation of the Psy's Silence Protocol that conditions emotions out of all Psy, the three races live in an uneasy state. But when the DarkRiver leopards lose a packmate to a Psy serial killer, all bets are off. Alpha Lucas soon finds himself working with Psy Sascha Duncan on a joint construction project that will hopefully get him an inside tract to the Psy world. But not everything is as it appears and nothing will be the same again after these two meet. What I LikedI first read this book 10 years ago when it was brand new and I have never looked back. I love the Psy-Changeling series and I'm amazed at the world Nalini Singh has created. Though this book only touches on the start of this world, Singh does a phenomenal job of creating a unique and diverse landscape for her characters to roam in. I love all the intricacies of this futuristic time where three races struggle to co-exist. The characters are also richly developed and there were so many side characters begging for their own story. Leopard Alpha Lucas Hunter is a great Hero; he's strong, cunning, dominant and possessive but also sweet and caring. I love the way the pack interacts with each other and how they take care of each other. They will desperately make you want to be a part of their family. Though Lucas's alpha nature makes him territorial of Sascha he knows when to pull back and let her make connections with her new pack. As for Sascha, she has been mentally and emotionally beaten down her whole life, told she could be so much better and forced to hide who she really is in order to fit into a world that is starting to choke her. Watching her come out of her shell and find herself was really beautiful to read. What I Didn’t LikeI'm probably biased but there wasn't anything I didn't like about this book. It hit all the right buttons for me and just worked in every way.
