I just finished my copy of Mark Herndon's autobiography "High Road: Memories From A Long Trip".I spent almost two days in the world of Mark Herndon’s great storytelling. Laughing and learning new things about my old friend. He never ceases to amaze me with his kindness and many talents.Aviation is my true love. I made my living in aviation with rotor wings for many years and Marks stories in the cockpit were funny and scary at times. I could not put my book down from page one.I agree with John C. on the professional in and out of the cockpit! This is a great read. He is an awesome drummer. Who knew he could write?“The Engine is the Heart of an Airplane, but the Pilot is its Soul.”

I have always been a fan of country music. A yankee and a non southerner but someone who deeply appreciated the music of country musicians so I loved Alabama. I loved their videos "Closer You Get" and "Dixieland Delight." I thought the band had it down musically and the country with a touch of rock sound was great. So, when I saw Mark Herndon's book I was immediately interested as he seemed to be having fun in their videos and seemed to be a cool guy. The book is really honest but it troubled me to learn that Mark was never paid properly by the band as he was always a salaried employee while the other 3 cousins became multimillionaires. That isn't right. Plus, the three cousins sued Mark after their farewell tour saying he got too much of a cut in merchandise fees but lost the case and had to pay Mark's attorney's fee which should tell you what the court thought of the case against Mark. Also, it seems appalling that these guys would be financially secure and then sue Mark for "merch" revenue. Also, Mark worked with the other three Alabama guys for 28 years and he spends most of the book calling them gneric names like "bass player" and "lead singer". This is totally understandable as the reader gets the impression the other three Alabama musicians were not all that good to Mark. I congratulate Mark on a great book and I hope he has warmer working relationships from here on in! Great book. Read it! Buy it!

A great read, but then I'm somewhat biased as I can call Mark, a friend and brother.For someone who is a celebrity in his own right, Mark is down to earth and totally honest. Aside music and aviation, Mark is a student of the history of this country and is a Patriot as well. Just think, if his eyesight had been a little better as a younger man, we might never have known him as I'm sure he would have chosen to be a Marine aviator, like his father.As a voracious reader, I slowed down and read his book word for word and in my insignificant opinion, he is a very good writer. I hope others will pick up and read this book in order to see the sacrifices musicians are faced with in order to entertain us.

This book takes you behind the scenes of one of America’s groundbreaking country bands. A series of short, captivating stories. I couldn’t put this book down! Would definitely recommend even though Mark’s truth puts somewhat of a damper on all my great memories of going up listening to this band, going to the June Jam and Christmas parties year after year, to their Myrtle Beach theatre, etc.

Wonderfully written. Mark makes you feel that you're in the moment with him. I live ten minutes from Fort Payne, these guys are known for being down to earth. They have helped all communities in this area. Great job,Mark

I enjoyed this book. It was an easy read and tastefully done. Mark Herndon definitely took the high road.

Very interesting to read, esp because I went to 9th grade with Mark in Havelock , NC. Fun kid / algebra classmate who grew up to have a very interesting life! Anyone who is a fan of his musuc will enjoy reading this book.
